Our Concerns

  • Our council has failed to involve the community.

  • Intention to approve Phase 1 planning prior to community engagement.

  • Ness was targeted as favourable / more favourable than Scolpaig but never pursued?

  • £1m of public money spent to purchase land prior to any community engagement.

  • Land valuation expected to be less than the £1m of public money invested

  • The local budget / fund that the interest on the £1m loan repayment is funded from is unknown.

  • No EIA, despite planning requirements and Atkins’ Scoping Report.

  • Environmental impact considerations have never been a factor in the proposal to progress with Phase 1 of Spaceport 1.

  • Wildlife / nature tourism impact not assessed.

  • Job numbers previously declared as 50 – 70. After five public meetings and Q&A this reduced to a declaration of 6 – 13 permanent jobs on site. We have been misled.

  • Transportation of dangerous fuels to the islands.

  • Roads infrastructure.

  • Pollution and noise pollution, health, safety & wellbeing of residents.

  • Health & safety of livestock & protected wildlife.

  • Likely future size of rockets.

  • Proposed rockets being untested with possible high failure rate.

  • Advised safety zones highly questionable.

  • Possible future military involvement.

  • Destruction of rare habitat.

  • Disregard by the Consortium as to the value of the natural asset and wildlife in this area.

  • Hebrides Range was previously the favoured site, why not considered further ?
